DETAILS
Date: 9th-13th September 2024
Time: 9am until 6pm
Location: Invalidenstr. 42 Mittelbau (Biophysics)
Course size: 4-6 participants from IZ LIST

The 'Single Molecule Biophysics Course' was a five-day training program designed to eduacte its participants in Single Molecule Theory, Single Channel Recording and Single Molecule Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence (TIRF) Microscopy. It comprised the relevant theoretical background as well as practical sessions to provide a holistic training schedule.
You find more information at the Berlin SMB Course website.
8 out of 8 participants would recommend the course to their colleagues. So - if you didn't attend this year - look out for next year's course!

During our course the mornings were reserved for lectures to convey the theoretical background and some delicious croissants. Before everyone headed to lunch the participants gave 10 minute 'Chalk talks', where they described their own work (completed, in progress or planned). Here, instead of preparing slides everyone just wrote/doodled on the board, which is always a great way to get to know each other and to transition from the theoretical to the practical part. The afternoons were reserved for practical work, where the participants learned how to prepair and examine samples and how to analyze the collected data.
We hope that everyone learned a lot and that we could help them to get started on their Single Molecule Biophysics project or to tackle their difficulties and problems. We also want to thank everyone for the great feedback and the suggestions for improvement, so we can make future courses even better. As befits a decent course, everyone also had a good dose of fun! So, be sure to watch out for next year's course! It will be even more awesome ^^!
